Coronal Loops Over a Sunspot Group

This crazy looking image was taken from NASAs Solar Dynamics Observatory using their Atmospheric Imaging Assembly instrument. Using the AIA tool scientists can view the magnetic field as it is seen here, illustrated by the coronal loops. The blue and yellow colours in the image illustrate the opposing polarities of the magnetic field.

The combined images were taken on Oct. 24, 2014, at 23:50:37 UT.
