Mankind’s Earliest Murder

A skull dating back 430,000 years has been discovered in an archeological site in northern Spain which could be our earliest indication murder. Found in the Sima de los Huesos cave system there are two distinct punctures above the left eye socket that are consistent in size and shape; with researchers saying that the likely cause is repeated blows with the same instrument.

Either one of them could have been lethal, because they both would have penetrated the brain.

said Rold M. Quam, a palentologist from Binghamton Univserity.

The fact that there were two fractures seems to imply the intention to kill.

The skull was found down a 45 foot shaft in the cave systems which could have functioned as a primitive burial site where bodies were thrown down this shaft, Quam continued; also stating that it is the earliest example they currently have of a burial site. The site also contains the remains of up to 28 other bodies, each of whom are being examined by Quams team in search of any more foul play.
